Blow molding is a method used by manufacturing companies to create hollow but strong products for their customers. These products are formed into their desired shape by inflating a heated thermoplastic tube called parison until it fills a mold. The parison is clamped between two mold halves and inflated by pressurized air until it conforms to the inner shape of the mold cavity. Finally, after the part has cooled, the mold halves are separated and the part is ejected.

Different methods are used to to form the parison. These include Extrusion Molding, Injection Molding, and Stretch Molding. A variety if thermoplastic materials can be used for Blow Molded products including:

  • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
  • Polyethylene Terephtalate (PET)
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Plastic beverage bottles and fuel tanks are commonly created through blow molding, along with a myriad of other products and product uses.
